Who this covers

This policy covers Fear Valley, made by awalkingcitygames.vbgnt.com and published on vbgnt (games.vbgnt.com). It applies when you visit the game's page and when you play the game in your browser on this site. In this policy, "we" means the developer and vbgnt, which hosts the game for them.

The short version

Play statistics

When the game starts, and every couple of minutes while it runs, it sends vbgnt a small report: which game, the platform (web, Android, Linux and so on) and how many seconds were played. The game page sends the same kind of report when you press Play. No name, account, device ID, input or gameplay event is included.

To count how many different people played in a day, the server combines your IP address and browser user agent with the date and turns them into a one-way hash. The IP address and user agent themselves are not stored, the hash changes every day, and it is deleted after 2 days.

What remains are counts (plays, visitors, seconds played) that the developer sees in their stats. Daily counts are kept for 2 years; running totals are kept while the game is published.

Saves and settings

Progress and settings are saved on your device: in your browser's storage when you play on the web, and in the app's data folder when you play a download. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the game removes them.

Online multiplayer

To start or join a match, the game connects to vbgnt's matchmaking service with the room code and the player name you choose. That room record is deleted within 6 hours.

Matches run peer to peer: your device connects directly to the host's device, so other players in the room can see your IP address, as with any direct connection. When a direct connection is not possible, the traffic passes through a vbgnt relay server, which forwards it without reading or storing game data. The relay keeps an operational log of connections (addresses and times).

Do not put personal information in your player name.

Messages to the developer

The support form on the game page sends your name (optional), email address, subject and message to awalkingcitygames.vbgnt.com by email, with your address set as the reply address. vbgnt does not keep a copy. The developer's own email address is not shown to you until they reply.

To stop abuse, the server keeps a daily count of messages per game and per visitor (the same kind of one-way hash described above), deleted after 2 days.

What else Fear Valley does

Voice chat is off until you switch it on. When you do, your browser asks for the microphone; your voice is sent only to the other players in your room, over the same connection the match uses, and is not recorded or stored.

Services we use

The game, the page and the downloads are hosted on Amazon Web Services (storage, content delivery, database and email). They process data only to run those services for us. Links on the game page to stores, social networks or other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

Children

The game does not ask for personal information to play. Children should not use the support form without a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact the developer and it will be deleted.

Your choices and rights

Play statistics cannot be linked back to you, so there is nothing to look up or delete. A content blocker that blocks requests to the vbgnt API will also stop them being sent.

For anything else, including questions about this policy or a request to access or delete a message you sent, contact the developer through the support form on the game page.

Changes

If what the game collects changes, this page is updated and the date below changes with it.
